Bennet Miller has a serious problem with traditional film and story structure.
This movie, for example, is incredibly uneven and about 30 minutes too long. That being said, it is kept from being unwatchable thanks to great performances from Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo. Steve Carell does his best as John Du Pont but, unfortunately, he’s not given enough interesting material to chew on and explore the character.
This could’ve been a great film given the source material and the characters involved, but Miller squandered what he was dealt and we were left with this.
It isn’t a bad film, but it could have been a great one.
